NVCA President Mark Heesen on Fundraising

The president of the National Venture Capital Association, Mark Heesen, had some interesting thoughts on the venture capital fundraising scene. Although he did not offer any false hope for new venture capitalists he says that the strong will survive, in a "Darwinian" sense.

Those venture capitalists with solid name recognition and proven track records will still be able to raise funds, names such as Marc Andreessen and Ben Horowitz and their new Andreessen Horowitz fund or August Capital. The environment is not as welcoming for young venture capitalists starting their first fund. Without a history for potential investors to base their decision on, they will likely choose to invest their capital with VC veterans or hold onto their money until the economy stabilizes.
